Senior Care in Davidson NC: Does Your Aging Adult Have a Plan for the Day?Having a plan for the day is a great idea for anyone, but it can be particularly important for your aging adult. This helps her to hit the goals that she wants to hit while still owning her time the way she wants to.

Morning Activities Get the Day Started Right

Morning routines help your senior to get every day started off calmly and in a way that supports her for the rest of the day. Start with a regular wakeup time which allows her to set herself up for a good night’s sleep that night. Breakfast, grooming, and some quieter activities that allow her to ease into the fullness of the day are typical for morning activities.

Afternoons Are Great for Being More Active

By the time early afternoon rolls around, your senior may be more ready for action. This is a good time for a little bit of exercise or socializing, depending on what your senior enjoys. Being a little more active in the middle of the day helps your senior to burn off excess energy.

Evening Routines Wind Down the Day

Late afternoon filters into to early evening, which brings with it dinner and winding down for the rest of the day. This is a great time for your senior to engage in activities that are more relaxing for her, such as watching a favorite television show or reading for a bit. Having a bedtime routine and a set time that she turns the lights out for the night can help her to get the sleep that she needs.

Assess Whether She Needs Help

At some points during her day, your elderly family member may need a little bit of extra help. For example, her joints may be too stiff in the morning to get started easily. Having help from you or from senior care providers can help her to get dressed earlier in the day than she might be able to do on her own. Then, as her joints loosen up, the rest of the day becomes a little easier for her to handle on her own.

Routines don’t have to be set in stone, though. Remember that the routines that you map out can be flexible enough to allow your senior plenty of choices throughout every day.
